  • 9100:2016 Series Delta Training Update as of 2 June 2017

    Jun 06, 2017

June 15, 2017 marks a very important date for the Aviation, Space and Defense certification scheme. In accordance with Supplemental Rule SR-003, all new 9100, 9110 and 9120 audits are to be conducted to the new standards.

The IAQG OPMT wanted to provide an update on the status of auditor transition and the actions taken to assist the auditor population in successfully completing the transition.

In addition to the communications and activities conducted by the certification bodies, the IAQG OPMT has initiated various communications in an attempt to ensure successful completion of the transition activities.

Two recent communications that auditors may find helpful include the following materials:

    • Information titled “Guidance and Recommendations for Assessments” section has been added to the IAQG Training FAQ site. This information identifies general steps that auditors may take to be better prepared to complete the online training and assessments required for 9100:2016; 9110:2016 and/or 9120:2016. This material is accessible at the following web address: https://www.iaqgtraining.com/view/faq.
    • A webinar specific to 9120:2016 from an auditor perspective has been recorded and available for replay on the IAQG Requirements webpage. This may be accessed at the following web address: https://www.sae.org/iaqg/organization/9120.htm. In this webinar, Dale Gordon, International Document Representative and subject matter expert for 9120, provides details on specific changes to 9120:2016. He provides this information from the perspective of the author.

Auditors are also encouraged to review the deployment support materials that have been developed by the IAQG Requirements Team and available at: https://www.sae.org/iaqg/organization/requirements.htm#oversight.

In addition, as a result of a request from the Independent International Organisation for Certification (IIOC), the OPMT has eliminated the maximum number of retakes and reduced the wait period between retakes to 24 hours. These changes were implemented on May 18, 2017.

These changes apply to all 9100:2016 series auditor training assessments, including the:

    • ISO 9001:2015 Pre-Assessment
    • 9100:2016 Forms and Audit Reporting Assessment
    • 9110:2016 Forms and Audit Reporting Assessment
    • 9120:2016 Forms and Audit Reporting Assessment

The goal of the IAQG OPMT is to provide an effective and convenient approach for currently authenticated auditors to complete the required training while also ensuring effective audits and audit reporting. We continue to monitor the results and take actions to ensure that our goals and the goals of the various interested parties are achieved as effectively and efficiently as possible.

  • 9100:2016 Series Delta Training Update as of 24 March 2017

    Mar 30, 2017

The following communication is intended to provide an update on:

    • Current training status for the 9100:2016 series of auditor training;
    • Remind auditors to notify and provide sufficient information to their respective Auditor Authentication Body to enable their status to be upgraded in OASIS; and
    • Remind auditors of the criticality of having their auditor status updated in OASIS prior to June 15, 2017;
    • OPMT actions

    CURRENT TRAINING STATUS:

With the launch of the 9110:2016 training modules in French, German, Italian and Spanish on March 22, 2017; all training, in all agreed languages are  now available.

The following summarizes the completion status for 9100:2016; 9110:2016 and 9120:2016 as of March 19, 2017.

Program Total Purchases Successful Completions (Certificates Issued)
    9100:2016 1068 596
    9110:2016 75 25
    9120:2016 180 61

The OPMT continues to monitor the above ratio of Total Purchases to Successful Completions in order to gage training progress, effectiveness and auditor resources. Auditors are encouraged to be diligent in their efforts to complete this training as soon as possible.

It is recommended that auditors that have successfully completed the AATT course and are interested in taking the training modules reference the IAQG OASIS email that was sent out on January 13, 2017 for early lessons learned and key take-a-ways that may assist in preparing for these courses. Auditors may access the IAQG Training site at https://www.iaqgtraining.com/store/offers-delta for information on purchasing these courses.

    13 January 2017 9100:2016 Bridge Training Update

    UPGRADING AUDITOR AUTHENTICATION:

Once  the auditor has successfully completed the 9100:2016, 9110:2016 or the 9120:2016 module(s) it is critical that he/she provides evidence of successful completion of the required sanctioned transition training to the Auditor Authentication Body (AAB) responsible for their existing authentication, in accordance with SR-003 paragraph 6b. This will allow the AAB to upgrade the auditor’s status in OASIS and qualify the Auditor to complete audits to the updated standard(s).

NOTE: If you already passed the program and sent this evidence to your AAB, no further action is required.

    CRITICAL DATE APPROACHING – JUNE 15, 2017:

In accordance with SR-003, no initial, surveillance or recertification audits shall be started to the previous versions of the AQMS standards after June 15, 2017. Auditors that have not been authenticated to the new standard by the June 15 date will no longer be qualified to conduct initial, surveillance or recertification audits to the 9100, 9110 or 9120 standards. It is critical to the auditors and the aviation, space and defense supply chain that auditors do not delay in achieving authentication to the new series of standards.

    OPMT Actions:

OPMT continues to monitor completion ratio of the training.

There are no plans for any changes to the curriculum or testing process at this time. The OPMT remains committed to ensure a robust and effective training program is maintained that will improve the competency level of the authenticated auditors in the ICOP scheme. IAQG-OPMT members recognize the efforts and greatly appreciate everybody’s support of this process.

  • 13 January 2017 9100:2016 Bridge Training Update

    Mar 30, 2017

This email was sent to all OPMT OP Assessors registered in OASIS on 13 January 2017.  It is reproduced here for reference.

    Dear Auditor,

    9100:2016 Bridge Training Update:

The goal of the OPMT is to provide an effective and convenient approach for currently authenticated auditors to complete the required training while also ensuring effective audit reporting. We continue to monitor the results and take actions to ensure that our goals and the goals of the various interested parties are achieved as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Since launch of the 9100:2016 Bridge training the OPMT team wanted to share the current status and provide observations regarding the results to date.

As you are aware, the course consists of:

    • ISO 9001 pre-assessment
    • 9100:2016 Delta Training
    • 9101:2016 Delta Training
    • Forms and Audit Reporting Training
    • Forms and Audit Reporting Assessment

As of January 6, 2017, approximately 360 people have completed the ISO 9001 Pre-assessment and approximately 180 have completed the Forms and Audit Reporting Assessment.  The training developer and the OPMT continue to analyze the results, the following includes early observations and key take-a-ways:

    ISO 9001 Pre-assessment

    • The pre-assessment requires pre-study and knowledge of the ISO 9001:2015 standard. It should not be taken lightly. This assessment consist of a knowledge and application section. Time management in this assessment is critical.
      • Early observations show that the participants are typically using most of the allotted time for the knowledge and completing the application section in approximately two thirds of the allotted time.
      • Average scores in the application section are somewhat lower than the scores in the knowledge section.
      • Pass rates after the first retake are significantly higher than the initial attempt pass rates.
    • Key Take-A-Ways:
      • Study the ISO 9001:2015 standard before taking the pre-assessment.
        • Be familiar with terminology changes to the standard, understand the new clause structure and how to find information in the standard quickly.
      • Manage your time.
        • The timing for the knowledge section does not allow extensive time for researching the standard to find or verify answers.
        • Within the application section, most people are scoring lower but completing this section in two-thirds of the allotted time. This section allows more time for review and verification, use it.

    9100:2016 Forms and Audit Reporting

    • The 9100:2016 Delta and the 9101:2016 Delta training, by design, focus on the deltas between the old and new standards. It assumes that the participant has strong knowledge of the ISO 9001:2015 standard and basic audit requirements. The forms and audit reporting module then takes various short scenarios and attempts to focus on 1) the auditor’s ability to analyze and synthesize audit data; 2) understand 9100:2016 requirements; and 3) application of the audit data and 9100:2016 requirements to the audit reporting. The training includes various “trial assessments” which allow the participant to complete the trial assessment then see the “Subject Matter Expert” assessment. Finally, the 9100 Forms and Audit Reporting assessment is taken.
      • Early observations show that the participants are typically using most of the allotted time for the Forms and Audit Reporting assessment.
      • Analysis reveals that common areas of weakness in auditor scoring include:
        • The difference between a statement of nonconformity and objective evidence (i.e. when asked to choose all correct and valid statements of nonconformities).
        • Selecting the most appropriate clause on a nonconformity statement, and how an NCR can be invalid when it’s written against an inappropriate clause.
        • The difference between process realization and process results.
        • Missed key details included in the scenario artifacts, in addition to the scenario description.
        • Prioritization of key issues raised by the questions (as opposed to issues that may be valid, but are not on-topic for the scenario/question at hand)
    • Key Take-A-Ways:
      • Study the ISO 9001:2015 standard before taking the pre-assessment.
      • Be familiar with terminology, changes to the standard and understand the new clause structure.
      • Be able to navigate the standards quickly and efficiently.
      • Utilize the trial assessments to get familiar with the materials, methodology and SME perspective to better prepare you for the final assessment.
      • Ensure that you are able to tell the difference between a statement of nonconformity and objective evidence.
        • Three of the four questions resulting in the lowest performance were related to not being able to properly identify or differentiate between statements of nonconformity and objective evidence.
        • This is not something that was not a targeted training point in the delta training, but clearly of impact in our audit reporting.
      • Ensure that you have read the scenario carefully are identifying the key details included in the scenario artifacts, in addition to the scenario description.
        • Three of the ten lowest performing questions were related to key details that were missed in the scenario description or artifacts provided.
      • Ensure that you are able to prioritize key issues raised in the question, as it relates to the specific scenario or question cited.
        • Three of the ten lowest performing questions were related to prioritization of key issues raised by the questions (as opposed to issues that may be valid, but are not on-topic for the scenario/question at hand)

    OPMT Actions:

Based on continued analysis of auditor assessment performance in the IAQG-sanctioned 9100:2016 Online Update Component, and in an effort to support the transition process, IAQG OPMT is making the following adjustments to the program effective immediately:

    ISO 9001:2015 Pre-Assessment:

    • Available time in Knowledge section increases from 75 minutes to 90 minutes
    • No adjustment to Application section timing (45 minutes) or pass score threshold (80%)

9100:2016 Forms and Audit Reporting Assessment:

    • Available time increases from 2 hours to 2 hours and 15 minutes
    • Pass Score Threshold lowered from 75% to 73%

The training developer has agreed to make this change retroactive and will be communicating these changes as well as the remediation plan for addressing those impacted by these changes in the next days.

    Regards,

    IAQG OPMT

  • Advisory regarding Firefox 51 and newer on Hi-DPI displays

    Feb 02, 2017

On 24 January 2017, Mozilla released Firefox 51, and this update is being deployed automatically to computers using Firefox.  We have recently been made aware that this browser update causes a problem when completing exams on the IAQG Training platform when on Windows and using a Hi-DPI display configuration.

If you are using a Hi-DPI display configuration, you will receive a notice with a yellow bar at the top of your window upon entering the training or assessment.

Impacted Configurations:  Firefox 51 or newer, on Windows 7 or newer, on a Hi-DPI display configuration (also known as “DPI Scaling”).

Issue:  When clicking on the answers for multiple choice questions, the associated checkbox or radio button may not always activate or deactivate.  In some cases, the checkbox for a previous answer may activate/deactivate, or a different radio button than the one you intended to select may become selected.

    Workarounds:

    1. Use a different web browser for the time being, such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Microsoft Edge.
    2. Access your Display Settings, and reduce the “Change the size of text, apps, and other items” setting to 100%.  (On Windows 7, this option can be found under “Display” in the Control Panel, and is titled “Make it easier to read what’s on your screen.”)

We are working to further diagnose this issue that was introduced in Firefox 51 and newer, and hope that we can provide an update to our training software as soon as possible that will bypass the problem.

UPDATE: We have confirmed that this issue remains a problem in Firefox 52, and have updated this news post accordingly.

  • 9100:2016 Online Update Component Assessment Timing and Scoring Adjustments

    Jan 13, 2017

    • Pass score threshold lowers from 75% to 73%

Auditors who have not yet started their assessments or related retakes will see the above adjustments immediately.  If an assessment attempt is already in progress, the assessment must be completed under the existing criteria and adjustments will be made retroactively per the schedule below.  Please note that there may be some discrepancies in the training text while translations are corrected to reflect the new criteria.
Auditors who completed the above assessments since the initial launch of the program on 30 November 2016 may be eligible to receive retroactive adjustments, per the following criteria:

    ISO 9001:2015 Pre-Assessment:

    • Due to the timing adjustment, auditors who received a score between 42/60 and 48/60 in the Knowledge section in one or more failed attempts will receive a refund for one retake attempt. If another retake is required but has not yet been purchased, an additional retake will be provided at no additional charge instead of a refund.  (These retakes will still be subject to the mandatory wait period between attempts.)

9100:2016 Forms and Audit Reporting Assessment:

    • Due to the timing adjustment, auditors who received a final score of either 70%, 71%, or 72% on one or more attempts will receive a refund for one retake attempt. If another retake is required but has not yet been purchased, an additional retake will be provided at no additional charge instead of a refund.  (These retakes will still be subject to the mandatory wait period between attempts.)
    • Due to the pass score threshold adjustment, auditors who received a final score of either 73% or 74% on one or more attempts will be considered to have passed the 9100:2016 Forms and Audit Reporting Assessment and will receive a certificate of successful completion. In addition, refunds will be provided for any purchased retakes after the auditor received the 73% or 74% score.
